Most guys with PE ask themselves at some point if their inability to control their ejaculation is PSYCHOLOGICAL or PHYSICAL in nature.

I've been helping guys overcome PE and ED for years now and I can tell you exactly what the answer is. Here’s what we're gonna cover in this article:

  • Psychological causes (spoiler: they’re mostly myths)
  • Physical causes — why lifelong PE is always genetic or biological
  • How to identify lifelong vs. acquired PE
  • What you can do to fix it

Let’s go!

The MYTH of Psychological vs. Physical Causes of PE

You’ll hear people split premature ejaculation into two camps: psychological and physical. In a minute you'll understand that there is no difference, but first, let's take a look at what people try to blame PE on:

Psychological causes people love to blame:

  • Childhood trauma or abuse
  • Stress from work or relationships
  • Partners rejecting sex or shaming you for it
  • The idea you “trained” yourself to finish fast from fear of being caught masturbating (we’ll shred this later)

Physical causes split into two types:

  1. Lifelong PE (present since your first sexual experiences):
    • Overly sensitive glans (head of the penis)
    • Hyperarousability (getting overstimulated too easily)
    • Lower serotonin levels or unfavorable serotonin gene expression
    • A too-short frenulum (rare, but fixable with minor surgery)
  2. Acquired PE (developed later in life):
    • Prostate problems
    • Going off antidepressants or other medications
    • Recreational drug abuse or medication side effects

Why Psychological Causes Are Mostly Bullshit

Here’s the question: Why do millions of men face the exact same psychological issues — trauma, stressful jobs, partners rejecting sex — yet never develop PE? Many even struggle to finish.

The answer: Genetics. If you don’t have the genetic blueprint for PE (sensitive glans, hyperarousability, low serotonin), psychological stress won’t cause it. If you do have that blueprint, stress can make PE worse — but it’s not the root cause.

You’ve seen it everywhere: “Premature ejaculation comes from psychological and physical causes.” Nope. Psychological factors don’t ignite it — they only fan the flames if your body’s already primed.

Key takeaway: Genetics load the gun. 🔫  Psychology pulls the trigger. 💦

Debunking the “Fear of Being Caught” Myth

You’ve heard this one: “You trained yourself to finish fast because you were scared of getting caught masturbating.” Total myth. If fear of being caught during a sneaky jerk-off could cause premature ejaculation, every guy would have it — because every single bro has rushed it at some point, worried about someone walking in. Hundreds, maybe thousands of times. Yet most do NOT end up with premature ejaculation.

It’s bunk logic. Lifelong premature ejaculation shows up from your first time — not some teenage hustle.

How to Fix PE: Two Simple Steps

  1. Find the cause:
    • Lifelong PE: Present from day one.
    • Acquired PE: Started after a period of normal function.
  2. Take action:
    • For acquired PE, remove the cause (e.g., treat prostate issues, adjust medications).
    • For lifelong PE, use the methods and techniques I teach in coaching and in my courses and which already have helped hundreds of men overcome PE.
