Delay products like sprays, creams and wipes numb your penis, so you feel nothing and last longer during sex. Sounds like a no brainer - problem solved. Right? 🤔
Not so fast...
Unfortunately all delay agents have the same problems: loss of erection, no spontaneous sex and inconvenience.
I myself and lots of my clients in my 1-on-1 Coaching Program used them before working with me, and in this article I'll share with you my own and their experience.

How do delay agents work?
All male delay products use the same local anesthetics to numb your penis, so you feel less and extend your time til orgasm, since you're building arousal at a slower rate:
- Numbing sprays use 10% lidocaine or a mixture of 7.5% lidocaine and 2.5% prilocaine.
- Numbing gels and creams use lidocaine, prilocaine and benzocaine in different concentrations.
- Delay wipes and condoms use benzocaine.
These same anesthetic agents are also commonly used in dentistry, tattooing and surgeries to numb the skin, mouth or the area being operated on. Without them you would feel pain, so they're truly lifesavers there.
However, when it comes to sex, they often do more harm than good.

How to use delay sprays
All delay sprays are used in the same exact way. Here's a step-by-step instruction:
Step 1. 💪
Decide with your girlfriend/partner that you wanna have sex.
Step 2. ⏳
Tell your girlfriend/partner that you need to wait 15 minutes before having sex, because you need to apply something on your penis, otherwise you would shoot too early.
Step 3. 🙅♂️
Avoid having sex for 15 minutes. You can’t let her to take it in her mouth or in her hand or penetrate her. It would be sticky and stinky on her hand, her mouth would get numb and she would ask uncomfortable questions.
Step 4. 🚿
After avoiding any sexual contact for 15 minutes you will need to go back to the bathroom and wash it off - otherwise she will be numbed and ask questions.
Step 5. 👩❤️👨
If she still wants it, you can now finally have sex. However...
Step 6. 😩
Now comes the biggest challenge. Try your best not to lose erection.
Just imagine how difficult it is to maintain your erection 🍆 when your penis feels like it's frozen. Some men describe the numb feeling as "It feels like I have no penis anymore!"
Can using a delay spray cause erectile dysfunction in men with PE?
Yes. Most men with PE who use numbing delay sprays or wipes will experience some erectile dysfunction in the short term. It happens because maintaining erection requires physical stimulation, which is not given when the penis is numbed by an anesthetic like lidocaine.
See, the issue is also that the majority of premature ejaculators already have some form of erection problems to begin with.
...and then you go and also numb your penis and feel nothing. Losing your erection at this point shouldn't come as a surprise. And that's the reason why most guys stop using them.
No spontaneous sex either.
Another downside to using these delay agents is that you have a very short time window of 40 minutes to use it. So not only can’t you be spontaneous, but you also have to make sure you have sex within that timeframe, or otherwise you will have to re-apply it on your penis, wait and wash it off again.
Unsurprisingly - I don’t recommend any of it.
But the good news is - you don’t have to numb your penis to last longer in bed. It’s completely unnecessary and actually counterproductive. There are much better and healthier ways to increase your stamina.
Last longer in bed without numbing your penis
My clients in my Lover Stamina 1-on-1 Coaching don't use any of these numbing products and are doing just fine. If you want to learn how to last 20-60 Minutes longer in bed without any numbing remedies, then just book your free consultation call with me and I'll show you how you can do it.
...even if you're a lifelong premature ejaculator and have a highly sensitive penis.
2. Numbing gels and creams 🧴
Delay numbing gels and creams work for premature ejaculation in the same exact way like sprays. They contain lidocaine, prilocaine or benzocaine and make your penis less sensitive.
The only difference is that you don't spray them on your penis but simply apply the gel or cream topically on your glans and foreskin. After this you also have to wait 15 minutes until the penis goes numb, wash it off and have sex.
Here are the 3 most common gels and creams used for PE:
K-Y Duration Gel Pump
This desensitizing delay gel pump gel contains 7% benzocaine and costs ~$20. One tube contains 36 pumps and is condom compatible.
EMLA cream
This desensitizing cream is not intended for PE but can be used off-label. It contains 2.5% lidocaine and 2.5% prilocaine and costs ~$10. It's a very weak cream, don't be surprised if the penis will remain sensitive.
Orajel 4X toothache & gum cream
Orajel 4X is a very potent numbing cream for toothache & gum. It contains 20% benzocaine and costs ~$20. It can be used off-label for PE, but be careful, it's very strong and can make your penis completely insensitive to any touch.
3. Numbing Wipes 🤧
PE wipes are towelettes that contain 4-7% benzocaine as numbing agent to desensitize sensitive parts of the penis. You simply rip open the wipes package and rub the towelette onto your penis 10 minutes before sex.
The numbing effect lasts up to 45 min. However it's very mild and won't do much for real premature ejaculators.
Hims Clockstopper Climax Delay Wipes
Each wipe contains 7% benzocaine and costs $65 for a 24 pack. Expensive and won't help a real premature ejaculator.
Promescent Desensitizing Delay Wipes
Each wipe contains 7% benzocaine $60 for a 30 pack. Expensive and won't help a real premature ejaculator.
Roman Swipes
Each wipe contains 4% benzocaine and costs $66 for a 24 pack. Roman’s wipes are very difficult to open and the effect is very weak because of the low benzocaine concentration.
4. Numbing Condoms 🥶
Delay condoms contain a benzocaine gel on the inside, which desensitizes your glans penis once you roll it over. They are very safe, easy to use and last up to 30 min once you roll them over.
Here's a quick overview of the available condoms for extended sex:
- Durex Performax intense with 5% benzocaine
- Durex Condom Prolong with 5% benzocaine
- Durex Extended Pleasure with 5% benzocaine
- Durex Mutual Climax with 5% benzocaine
- Trojan Extended Pleasure with 4% benzocaine
- Erotim Long Love with 7% benzocaine - produced in Germany
How much longer will you last with numbing condoms?
Just like with other benzocaine delay products, the delaying effect is very mild. You might last 1-3 minutes longer with these, but don't expect wonders. It highly depends on your initial stamina.
If your initial average lasting time is 3-5 minutes, you might see some benefit, but they won’t make much of a difference if you're a true premature ejaculator lasting below 1-2 minutes on average.
So if you're one of those 1-2 min guys, you're way better off learning how to last 10-60 minutes longer in bed without any last longer remedies or condoms. Check out my 1-on-1 Lover Stamina Coaching Program for this (you get a free 30 min consultation).
Safety & Risks
The numbing agents lidocaine, prilocaine and benzocaine used in delay products are also being heavily used in dentistry, surgeries and tattooing, so they're completely safe and have very few side effects 1Benzocaine side effects and adverse effects study by Ravneet Singh; Yasir Al Khalili. .
Safety is not the issue with them. The main risk you run is losing your erection when it counts and wasting your money.
In some rare cases there can be an allergic reaction or hypersensitivity to lidocaine, so you can consult your doctor before using them if you're worried.
FAQ
Do non numbing delay products work?
No, they don't. There are a ton of delay sprays and creams like LEO PRO, Lidoria Men's Delay Spray, or Rhino Long Power, VigRx, which are marketed as a so-called 'non-numbing formula.'
They use only natural ingredients like jojoba oil, ginkgo biloba leaf extract, panax pseudoginseng root extract, Chinese magnolia vine, cloves, mucuna pruriens (velvet bean) seed extract, phellodendri, aloe vera, snake bed, ginseng, and others.
And precisely because these non-numbing delay products don't contain any anesthetics, they also can't make your penis less sensitive. Thus they simply have no effect other than placebo, just as homeopathic treatment for premature ejaculation (sugar balls) or hypnotherapy for PE.
How long do numbing delay agents last?
Delay wipes, gels and condoms use benzocaine, which according to manufacturers can last between 20–30 minutes after application. During this time the sensitivity will be diminished.
Delay sprays and creams usually contain lidocaine and/or prilocaine, giving you a time window of 30-40 minutes where your penis is numb.
How much longer can you expect to last with delay products?
Delay wipes and condoms
Delay wipes and condoms use only 4-7% of benzocaine, which is why they have a very weak delaying effect.
But if you're a moderate premature ejaculator with 3-5 minutes lasting time on average, then the delaying effect might be just enough to double or triple your lasting time.
However if you're a true premature ejaculator lasting below 1-2 minutes on average, then numbing agents won’t make much of a difference. You may last 1-2 minutes longer with these, but that's about it.
Numbing sprays
If you use numbing sprays with 10-13% lidocaine, then you can make your penis completely insensitive and prevent arousal build up and last longer. However - if you do that and have a "frozen" penis, you will very quickly run into problems maintaining your erection.
👉 So if you're one of those 1-2 min guys, you're way better off learning how to last 10-60 minutes longer in bed without numbing your penis. Book a free 30 min consultation call with me and I'll show you how you can do it.
Numbing your penis is not the solution for your PE
If you last 1-2 min on average since your first intercourse (incurable primary premature ejaculation), then you'll have to numb your penis with 10-13% lidocaine sprays to see at least some delaying effect. But with such a frozen penis you run into erection problems. 👉 So you're better off just learning how to last longer in bed without numbing your penis.
If you last 3-5 min on average (moderate premature ejaculator), then numbing your penis isn't even necessary. 👉 Because you could just learn how to last longer without it.
If you have acquired PE (third category), for example if you have prostate problems which must be solved with antibiotics2 Kim S. W. (2011). Prostatic disease and sexual dysfunction. Korean journal of urology, 52(6), 373–378. Accessed June 8, 2022. https://doi.org/10.4111/kju.2011.52.6.373 , then delay agents make no sense, you should address the root of your problem. Read this article for more info: causes of premature ejaculation.
What about medication?
Yes, drugs that increase serotonin can make you last longer and is a thinkable alternative to numbing agents. However, then you not only will see worsened erection, but also loose your sex drive. Read this article to find out why: drugs that treat premature ejaculation
What about exercises for PE, are they the solution?
No. Exercises won't make much of a difference. Read this article here: 5 premature ejaculation exercises
👉 Again, you're much better off learning how to last longer in bed without using any pills, numbing agents or risky surgeries for PE. So here's my recommendation for you:
If you want to get rid of your PE and avoid erection problems caused by delay agents, then just book your free consultation call with me and I'll show you how you can last 20-60 min longer in bed naturally
...even if you're a lifelong premature ejaculator and have a highly sensitive penis.
