Sex experts Taylor Johnson and Jason Dean claim you can last longer in bed using the penis root masturbation technique, which they say is "backed up by science."

In today's blog post, we’ll review the technique, examine the study, and find out if it actually works. Let's go!

What Is Penis Root Masturbation For Premature Ejaculation?

So, what exactly is penis root masturbation?

The idea is simple — If you masturbate only at the root, the lower third of your penis ( and not at the tip ) , and you do it for 3 months straight, then - allegedly - you'll be able to last longer in bed.

 

This red line shows the lower third of the penis — the only part you’re allowed to stimulate during this masturbation practice. You don’t touch the tip at all.

A study from 2019 seems to back this up, but there are some serious problems with it. Let me explain why it might be a waste of time, and suggest what you should do instead to last longer in bed.

THE STUDY

This study comes from China in 2019 and involved nine heterosexual men with lifelong premature ejaculation (PE). After three months of penis root masturbation training, their median lasting time increased from 60 seconds to 180 seconds—on average, from 1 minute to 3 minutes.

Here’s how it worked: participants practiced three times a week.

Each session, they masturbated only at the root for 10 to 15 minutes without orgasming.

If they felt the urge to ejaculate, they stopped and continued later, aiming for a total of 10 to 15 minutes.

Only then were they allowed to finish.

On top of this, they had to maintain regular intercourse—meaning only men with sexual partners could participate.

Single guys were out of luck because the scientists needed data on real sex alongside this practice.

The results? Let's break it down.

The results might look good on paper — 1 minute to 3 minutes — but dig deeper, and it falls apart. Here are the three main problems:

Problem #1  =  3 minutes not enough

After 3 months of practice, lasting only 3 minutes — or 2 minutes longer than before to be exact — isn’t really enough.

I don’t know about you, but I want intense, long-lasting sex, and so do most partners. Two extra minutes just doesn’t cut it.

Problem #2 = useless for sex

Here’s a great point from Reddit:

"How would not touching the head of the penis during masturbation make you last longer when the head will be touched during regular sex? Wouldn’t it make it more sensitive when it’s finally touched?"

I couldn’t agree more. You’re training for a scenario where the glans isn’t stimulated, but in real sex, it absolutely is. This doesn’t add up.

Problem #3 = misinterpretation of the results

The Real Reason It Worked.

The scientists thought the penis root technique was the key to going from 1 to 3 minutes. But the real reason? More frequent ejaculations.

Before the study, these guys averaged three sexual intercourses per week. During the study, they kept those three intercourses and added three masturbation sessions—doubling their weekly ejaculations to six.

It’s no surprise they lasted longer; it’s basically the “second round” effect. Ejaculate earlier in the day, wait an hour or two, and have sex—you’ll naturally last longer. The technique itself didn’t matter; the frequency did.

Oh, and one more thing: there was no control group. If they’d had nine guys masturbate normally before sex—like an hour before—and then tested their lasting time, they’d probably see similar results. Without that comparison, the study’s conclusions are shaky. The scientists missed the obvious, and that’s a problem.

Is Penis Root Masturbation Worth Your Time?

So, does this penis root masturbation exercise actually help you last longer in bed?

In my opinion, it’s a waste of time. 

You’re better off spending those hours learning proven techniques and methodologies—like the ones I teach in my coaching and courses.

Focus on the real stuff: address your limiting beliefs, get rid of performance anxiety, and change your sexual behavior.

That’s how you’ll have amazing, long, satisfying, intense sex—way more than just 3 to 5 minutes.
