Men with premature ejaculation are often willing to do anything to last longer in bed. Sometimes even if it means sticking needles into their bodies during an acupuncture treatment session. But does it even work?
In this short article I'll review if accupuncture treatment can work for premature ejaculation.
Acupuncture and premature ejaculation
💡 Acupuncture is a part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in which thin needles are inserted into the body. It is considered a pseudoscience because its claims, theories and practices are not based on scientific evidence. This is why acupuncture is characterized as quackery.
So it usually doesn't really work for anything. But what about lasting longer in bed?
Does Acupuncture Help With Premature Ejaculation? Nope. For joint inflammation, backpain or headaches, yes - scientists did observe some slight relief, but for premature ejaculation - no real success.
In one study, acupuncture was found to extend the time to ejaculation after penetration by only 30 seconds compared to placebo.1Katy Cooper, PhD et al. Complementary and Alternative Medicine for Management of Premature Ejaculation: A Systematic Review Link
Now does this sound like a wild night full of hot sex you can surprise your partner with by having 30 additional seconds of sexual stamina? Hmm.. 🤔
In another study from Turkey, 90 men with early ejaculation underwent acupuncture sessions twice a week for a month. The result was an increase in lasting time of only around 65 seconds.2Sunay et al. Acupuncture versus paroxetine for the treatment of premature ejaculation. Link
Acupuncture and serotonin
The very best you could expect from acupuncture is probably some relaxation. Acupuncture seems to be able to trigger a slight increase in serotonin.3Eun JinLee et al. The effects of acupuncture on serotonin metabolism Link.
And although higher serotonin levels can help delay ejaculation, the increase in serotonin from acupuncture seems to be just too low to move the needle 🤷♂️.
If you're curious, acupuncture points that caused the increase in serotonin were bilateral Shenshu (V23/Bl23) 4Chae Ha Yang et al. A Possible Mechanism Underlying the Effectiveness of Acupuncture in the Treatment of Drug Addiction Link and Zusanli (ST36) 5 Nikolay Dimitrov et al. Acupuncture Causes Serotonin Release by Mast Cells Link . Other acupuncture points used for ejaculatio praecox (without success) were: S36/Ma36 (zusanli), IC4/Di4 (hegu), R3/Ni3 (taixi) and H3/Le3 (taichong), Ex1/M-HN-3 (yintang) and Rs3/KG3 (zhongji).
A good and free alternative to increase serotonin levels without inserting needles into your body, but get the benefit of lasting longer in bed is practicing meditation.

Acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by an experienced practitioner using sterile needles, regardles if you do it for premature ejaculation or for something else. 6 Risks of acupuncture Mayo Clinic But of course, like with any medical procedure, it does carry some risks:
- Bleeding, Bruising, and Soreness: These may occur at the insertion sites
- Infection: If unsterilized needles are used, there’s a risk of infection.
- Interfering with your pacemaker, if you have one, and if the type of acupuncture type you chose involves applying mild electrical pulses to the needles.
- MAIN RISK: wasting money on something that simply doesn't work for PE.
Acupuncture - yes or no?
Bottom line with acupuncture for PE is - you pay 70-100$ per session, endure half an hour of pain and then go home empty-handed.
So, unfortunately, no, I can't recommend it.
If you do it - do it for relaxation, not for more stamina in bed.
And if you want something that really works, just follow the 5 simple steps of my Lover Stamina program and they will literally force you to last 10-60 minutes longer in bed.
Without pills, without PE surgeries or inserting needles in your body.
See you there!
